pirateWhat's an antidote to too much time spent online? Joe Sandor's answer was making something with your hands and spending face-to-face time with friends. It was the social aspect of making and eating crepes that originally inspired the Captain Crepe Pan. That success lead this sculptor to his second adventure in limited-edition artist cook-castings: the Pirate Pancake Skillet.

Disaster in Oklahoma

Moore, Oklahoma has been completely flattened by a tornado. Homes and businesses have been destroyed, but also a couple of schools and a hospital.

And here’s a time-lapse video of this monster ripping through the countryside.

What can we do? I mentioned it to Foundation Beyond Belief — go to the “Crisis Response” link and tell them you want to contribute to the relief efforts. If enough of us do that, they’ll set something up to take your godless donations and send them to where they’re most needed. And then send them money!

Zingularity also has a post on the catastrophe.

Guild Wars 2

I've been busy lately with Guild Wars 2, my very first pc game. It's been coming for a while, cause all the people I hang out with on a regular basis have been playing for at least five month, and they were always pestering me. Four days ago, my excuse of not having enough money finally ran out. Subsequently, I've spent the last three days gaming.

Have some pictures of my characters (image heavy) )

There will probably be more pictures as our stories progress, because I'm quite frankly in love with all of them, but for now, this is it.

So there I was, idly flipping through my vid folder last night, clearing out some files I hadn't watched in years and rewatching some of my favorites from days gone by.

"Huh," I said about three-quarters of the way down. "I don't remember downloading this one!"

I clicked, I watched...and then I immediately watched it five more times.

Ride to California by [livejournal.com profile] bradcpu (The Avengers + prequels)

This sucker is just good old-fashioned, action-packed, heart-pumping fun. I freakin' love the use of rhythm and movement throughout the whole thing -- it's one of those vids that makes me even more excited about the MCUverse, because SERIOUSLY LOOK AT HOW AWESOME THESE MOVIES ARE. I think my only complaint is that there isn't nearly enough Natasha, but considering it was cut together before The Avengers even hit theaters (all of the footage is from trailers and the other Phase One films), I can forgive that. And I never think there's enough Natasha, because really: there never can be. :D

WELP JUST SAW THE NEW STAR TREK

WHICH I THINK MEANS

SPOILER CUT TIME )

In conclusion, FANFIC READING TIME because when the canon gets it wrong, you must WIP it, after all. I trust fandom to do right by things! There were some REALLY GLORIOUS fannish creations after the last star trek movie. Like Lunch and Other Obscenities an amazing Gaila fic! Or the Too Many Dicks On The Dancefloor vid! Or The First Time, about racism in the movie! Or Graduate Vulcan For Fun And Profit, where Kirk is actually a competent human being! Or the millionty billion beautiful Kirk/Spock epics that get the feels just right! AND THIS IS JUST A TINY PART OF THE AMAZINGNESS, this is just me listing off a few things that came to me off the top of my head!

Second conclusion: I went to see this movie with my dad, and as we were chatting before it began we agreed we need to watch some of the original movies. Like the one with Khan! And the one with the whales! And maybe just all of them? I am sure there are people out there reading this who have opinions about the original run of star trek movies, so please share with me which ones, in your opinion, are worth watching? thx!!!

The hack was reportedly intended to root out the identities of Chinese intel operatives in the US believed to be under surveillance by the US.

Women read comics and are a driving force behind fandom. I think I could call them the driving force behind fandom and put up a convincing argument. Just think about it: what fandoms have driven America crazy in the last decade? Could anyone dissuade me from saying that they were Harry Potter, Twilight and the Hunger Games? "Avatar" may have put butts in theater seats, but you don't hear about it... ever. No one is immersed in the world of "Avatar" except James Cameron and people who enjoy wearing Na'vi Zentai suits. "The Avengers" was pretty darn huge and, if Tumblr is any indication, a whopping portion of the people driving that fandom online do not possess a Y chromosome. Women engage in fandom to levels that men do not. When women get behind something, their sheer numbers and passion force it into the mainstream. That's why you can name the actor who plays that werewolf kid in "Twilight" and probably sing at least the chorus to one Justin Bieber song. What do tween boys like? I have no clue. Sports? Probably sports.
