If I remember correctly (and I may well not do, not being a muslim and all), the Qu'ran forbids drinking fermented grain, berries and fruit. However, in theory, rum should be OK (sugarcane is neither grain, berries or fruit) and, similarly, mead.

But, yes, bit odd.
